It Takes Two

Long story short, it will be a hell of an adventure with every step that matters. The game was developed by Hazelight Studios and released in 2021 for Windows, Xbox One, and X/S, and PlayStation 4 and 5.

Graphics 10/10

It is hard not to fall in love with these two adorable characters made like ragdolls. But if you are not amazed at the realistic mechanics, you can try a little bit of magic in a world dominated by squirrels, wasps, and other inhabitants of nature around us. It is a perfect chance to become a part of Bug’s Life movie, or at least enjoy colorful sceneries with all shades of green.

The mini versions of the two main characters attend different locations in order to complete one big quest. This gives you the ability to get into the squirrel’s den, run around an old attic, and even check numerous power instruments from inside. Even a split-screen does not ruin the view.

Sound 10/10

In this game sounds and graphics go hand in hand. It Takes Two sound effects are realistic and always in their place. Every move is accompanied by proper sounds. From time to time the rising sound that may alarm you about the danger is getting too loud, but you can stop it or make it quieter anytime you want. However, there are lots of dialogues you don’t want to miss, and you still need to talk to your partner.

Gameplay 9/10

While the game is exciting and filled with various attractions, the whole concept looks a little bit worn out. Do you remember the good old parent trap and their numerous clones? Well, we know where developers of It Takes Two took the idea. Fortunately for us, we are past the 90s and well aware that forcing other people to love each other is never ok. So, once May and her husband Cody deal with imposed therapy, let's hope they explain to their daughter Rose how to wish for anything in front of magic dolls.

Once Rose wishes to repair her parents’ marriage, their souls get trapped in the two dolls. They receive weird therapy sessions from Dr. Hakim who sets numerous obstacles on their way just to refresh their love. Rose, at the same time, runs away. Now May and Cody have to quickly come back to their old bodies and bring back Rose.

Lasting Appeal 8/10

It Takes Two is not the evergreen game with the new twists you open each time you enter the game. Once you have finished all the mini-quests and achieved the goal, you receive a well-developed ending. You may start from the very beginning with different players or improve your previous scores to gain more points. Still, it will be slightly less exciting because you will know the end.

The Bottom Line

It Takes Two is like a therapy session you may never attend in real life, mainly because your therapist is the weirdly looking book, and your support group is squirrels and wasps. It is a perfect co-op game for those who want to experience the life of a bug in a yard’s jungle. You will see things we use in daily life from a different angle.
